(b) In females, oxytocin stimulates a vigorous contraction of uterus at the time of childbirth.
Anti-diuretic hormone (ADH) or vasopressin, which acts mainly on kidney and stimulates resorption of water and electrolytes by distal tubules and thereby reduces water loss through urine. Both of these hormones are released by posterior pituitary but are synthesised by hypothalamus.
